Antica Olimpia<\/h3>\n

Ad Olimpia, culla dei Giochi Olimpici<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prima di arrivare ad Olimpia, \u00e8 d’obbligo visitare l’Antica Elis, la citt\u00e0 che, nell’antichit\u00e0, si dedic\u00f2 all’organizzazione dei Giochi Olimpici. Gli atleti sono venuti qui per allenarsi, circa un mese prima dell’apertura. Possedeva le strutture pi\u00f9 complete, bagni lussuosi, un’agor\u00e0, una palestra, templi e luoghi di culto, il pi\u00f9 significativo dei quali era quello di “Afrodite celeste”. La “sacra tregua”, come veniva chiamata, fu firmata durante i Giochi e tutta l’Elide fu dichiarata sacra. Quando si arriva ad Olimpia \u00e8 evidente che il sito archeologico comunica grandezza e solennit\u00e0. Per viaggiare indietro nel tempo e assaporare la magia dei Giochi Olimpici originali, avrai bisogno di tempo, uno stato d’animo di scoperta e una buona guida illustrata che puoi ottenere dal Museo Archeologico in loco, recentemente rinnovato. Sorgenti termali di Kyllini e Kaiafas<\/h3>\n

Le sorgenti termali di questa stazione termale, relativamente sviluppata, sono da tempo affermate come attrazione turistica. Persone provenienti da tutta la Grecia e dall’estero vengono in questo luogo per godere delle qualit\u00e0 benefiche delle acque, ricche di zolfo, sodio e cloruro, e di una temperatura di 25,5 C\u00b0, adatte al trattamento di diverse patologie dermatologiche, artritiche, ginecologiche e problemi respiratori. Un altro centro termale molto noto in questa zona \u00e8 quello di Kaiafas, costruito sull’isola piny di Santa Caterina, in mezzo a un laghetto. Le acque medicinali sgorgano sia dalla grotta delle ninfe Anigride, sia dalla grotta del Geranion, dove, secondo il mito, il centauro Nesso si ripul\u00ec la ferita, provocata da una delle frecce avvelenate di Ercole.     Il faro di Kafkalida<\/h3>\n

    Su una striscia di rocce battute dal mare si erge il faro di Kafkalida. Costruito nel 1916, avverte i marinai della pericolosa barriera corallina all’ingresso del Porto di Kyllini. \u00c8 possibile che, nell’antichit\u00e0, vi fosse un edificio con funzione simile nello stesso punto, poich\u00e9 il fondo del mare custodisce molte antichit\u00e0. La leggenda narra che qui abitasse una sirena che strappava le reti dei pescatori quando aveva un brutto carattere.     Il Monastero di Panagia Vlacherna<\/h3>\n

    A circa 2,5 km a SE di Kyllini si trova il monastero femminile di Panagia Vlacherna. \u00c8 un bell’esempio di architettura cristiana del XII secolo, iniziata dai Bizantini e completata dai Franchi.     C’\u00e8 di pi\u00f9 nella spiaggia di Kalogria oltre alle sue meravigliose sabbie; \u00e8 anche un’importante zona umida, poich\u00e9 i 5.000 ettari della pineta di Strofylia la avvolgono letteralmente. Protetta dai trattati ambientali internazionali, la foresta \u00e8 di eccezionale bellezza naturale, formando stagni, paludi e lagune che scendono sotto il livello del mare. Numerose specie di uccelli, molte delle quali rare, trovano cibo e rifugio nei suoi luoghi incantevoli.     Santa Sofia<\/h3>\n

    La chiesa gotica di Santa Sofia fu costruita dai crociati latini dopo che si erano assicurati la loro posizione in Moreas e avevano fondato il Principato. Solo il santuario \u00e8 sopravvissuto a terremoti e atti vandalici locali. Questo edificio fungeva da cattedrale e luogo di riunione per i cavalieri e i feudatari di Moreas, in momenti di importanti decisioni del governo. Era una delle chiese franche pi\u00f9 grandi e imponenti della Grecia. Misurava 45,50 metri di lunghezza e 19 metri di larghezza.     Il famoso castello Chlemoutsi<\/h3>\n

    Here, in Castle Chlemoutsi, lived and ruled Achaia Constantinos Paleologos \u2013 Dragatsis, last Byzantine Emperor\u2026,\u2019 reads the inscription at the entrance. Castle Chlemoutsi, the most beautiful castle of the Peloponnese, imposingly stands on a 250 m-high hill, in the region of the cape Chelonata, and is very well preserved. It was established by Geoffrey I Villehardouin in 1222 and saw moments of glory and unfortunate love, to which local legends give testimony\u2026 The brave king of Paliopoli (present-day Elis) fell in love with the queen of Chlemoutsi and she returned his feelings; but a mysterious curse befell them: if they exposed themselves to light, they would immediately turn into marble. And so, he was called \u2018Sunless\u2019 and she was called \u2018Moonless\u2019, and they only met by way of a long underground tunnel, which connected Paliopoli to Chlemoutsi. However, daybreak caught Sunless once, as he was slipping back to his palace, and he instantly froze.
